Puerto de la Cruz has a rocky coastline with stunning beaches, among which we recommend San Telmo, a favourite amongst locals; the Lago Martiánez saltwater pools, designed by the painter and sculptor César Manrique; Playa Martiánez and its black sand, a popular choice amongst surfers; and Playa Jardín, also with black sand and stunning views of Mount Teide.

Traditional cuisine

All our apartments in Puerto de la Cruz are equipped with complete kitchenettes which will allow you to prepare your favourite meals whenever you want. Also, most of our holiday resorts have restaurants where you can sample traditional homemade local and international cuisine. Tenerife’s cuisine is quite simply exquisite, so do not leave without trying papas arrugadas (Canarian wrinkly potatoes), rabbit in salmorejo, potaje vegetal (vegetable stew) and cazuela de pescado (fish stew) among other local specialities. You can also accompany them with any of the five local DO wines: Abona, Valle de la Orotava, Tacoronte-Acentejo, Valle de Güimar and Ycoden-Daute-Isora.

What to see in Puerto de la Cruz

The Pez Azul apartments and hotels in Puerto de la Cruz enjoy strategic locations which will allow you to comfortably explore the town. Here is a list of some of the most important attractions to see: Botanical Gardens, a stunning show of tropical plants and vegetable species from all over the world; San Felipe Castle, built in the Seventeenth century to defend the town from pirate attacks and today converted into a cultural centre; the Chapel of San Telmo, located by the sea and dedicated to the patron saint of sailors; and the Church of San Francisco, the oldest building in Puerto de la Cruz. If you want to enjoy a day filled with family fun, visit Loro Parque, one of the best zoological theme parks in the world and home to over 10,000 exotic and endangered animal species. Plaza del Charco is the heart of Puerto de la Cruz, a square with many shops, restaurants and terrace bars located by the port, next to the old House of Customs (Casa de la Aduana) and the old dock.

Excursions

From Puerto de la Cruz, you can go on many interesting excursions in the northern part of Tenerife and even the whole island, since distances are relatively short. Near the Pez Azul accommodations, we recommend that you visit La Orotava, a town full of stately homes of traditional Canarian architecture which was declared a Historic-artistic Monument; Garachico, a town which preserves buildings of great historical value such as the Church of Santa Ana, San Miguel Castle and the Palace of the Counts of La Gomera; Icod de los Vinos, with its famous dragon tree and traditional architecture; San Cristóbal de La Laguna and its beautiful old town which was declared a World Heritage Site; Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the island’s capital famous for its Carnival and, last but by no means least, Teide National Park, home to the third highest volcano in the world measured from the ocean bed: Mount Teide.
